CUSeeMe Help Behind Router?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can help me get my CUSeeMe program to run while behind a router. I am using Cornell Version 1.0 of CUSeeMe. CUSeeMe is showing my private IP (192.168.xxx.xxx) and not my public IP, so it won't connect to anything.

Can I use port forwarding to rectify this problem? If so, what port should I open?

Are there any other tricks to get this to work?

Yikes! Might just be easier to go into the DMZ with a good firewall!

He could probably get away with just doing 4 or 5 ranges, he won't be able to do that many individual ports.

Thanks for those suggestions, guys.

I tried Port Forwarding, but my Soho router only allows 10 ports, and there were too many for me to enter.

I also tried opening up my system with DMZ, but my CuSeeMe program is still picking up my internal IP.

I think I need the better version the CuSeeMe software :(

Cornell 1.0 CU-SeeMe does not use ports below 7648 or above 7649 as I recall. Those ports relate to services used by later versions. In any case, you may have troubles connecting to certain CU reflectors, particularly eref versions. The White Pine reflectors should work in most cases.
If you do a google serach on CU-SeeMe, you should be able to find a FAQ for the early versions that lists all port usage.

Try working with a range of ports, instead of individual. Ex...if you see port 7640, 7642, 7648, 7649....you don't need to make 4 separate entries, just make one entry covering the full range, from <first> to <last>.

Yes, when dealing with software running through NAT, for best compatibility, always use the latest version of everything. Firmware for your router, and the software, with all patches applied.

I tried opening a range of ports, and I was able to get to some reflectors (White Pine)! However, most refs gave me "incorrect IP" errors.
