Hello all

I am with NTL UK running a terayon cable modem connected to a duel NIC Windows XP proffesional workstation. The one NIC connects to the modem and the other to a hub which is to a Windows 2000 domain.

The problem that I am having is that the connection seems to drop every 2 hours or so although if I do an ipconfig the DHCP issued address is still registered and bound to the NIC.

The only way that I can get the connection back is by doing an ipconfig /release and then an ipconfig /renew. this will then bring the connection back but it will drop again in about 2 hours.

sometimes however the connection will stay up for a week or more but this has only happened twice, but as soon as the PC is rebooted I am back with the same problem again.

I have changed the NIC that connects to the modem which did not help, I have had NTL re register the modem , this did not help, I am at my wits end!!!!!!!

Any help in this regard would be greatly appriciated.

thanks

Hello me again.

Forgot to mention that I have the following error in my event viewer.

error ID 1003

Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network card with network address 00A024F22FD6. The following error occured:
The semaphore timeout period has expired. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

Me again

A few other things that I have noticed.

NTL has a 4 hour lease on its DHCP IP addresses, my connection drops out exactly 2 hours after the IP address has been issused i.e. mid lease.

have also noticed that if i do an ipconfig /all after the connection has dropped out the lease is beeing renewed but am unable to connect to anything on the internet I cant even ping the default gateway. So this seems to be a problem between the PC and the modem , I beleive that the modem is still connected.

PLease HELP !!!!!!!
