View Full Version : Better Cables?
Just curious, as I am very new to cable modems and ethernet connections. I just purchased a very nice ethernet cable for my cable modem to NIC card. Gold plated, you know all the stats...nicer cable than the bland one that came in my kit. Is there any real advantage or transfer (noticeable) rate between cheap cable and good cable on a home pc with cable connection?

What really matters is the quality/gauge of the copper used with your Ethernet cable. Cheap copper on an Ethernet cable will start showing connection inefficiencies in the form of frequent disconnects, inconsisent throughput, auto-sensing issues, etc. If the cable used is only six feet long, I really doubt you will see any difference unless of course, you're using CAT3 cable.
The cable is a FastCat 5e cat5 ethernet cable with 24kt gold connectors. Cable is 3 feet long (my modem is really close to splitter and the computer).
I just wanted to purchase a good cable, but I was curious if it made any difference.
The connections are what make the difference.
