I have two PC's; one running XP the other 98SE. Have been considering dropping my Dial-up account, networking the computers and going to Cable for my ISP. Any information on the better equipment for setting up a home network would be appreciated. I have already wired my house for an Ethernet network. I have been looking at Linksys, US Robotics and Netgear.

I would opt for the NetGear RT314 (http://www.netgear.com/product_view.asp?xrp=4&yrp=12&zrp=55).

hi,
really easy, you are already wired
10 or 100 MBit ??
the computer connected to the cablemodem should have 2 nics
for the cablemodem a 10Mbit should be enough
for local network 100MBit would be fine
but BNC with 10 MBit works too and is more Flexible (no hub and no star connection)
the other computer needs 1 NIC
then run on the PC connected to the internet the microsoft ICS (connectionsharing)
or install Janaserver a good and free
Proxy found here

hope i could help
