Second modem?

I bought a second cybersurfr to use on my son`s computer upstairs .
When i hook it up the cable light stays off.
Do i have to call the cable company?

You can't have two modems on one ip address. What you need to do is buy a router and network your computers together. Look here http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/index.htm :D :)
