Hot digitty-damn! That's what a traceroute is supposed to look like, I would love if mine looked like that. You are technically right when being concerned about hops 2-5: ALL computers connected outside of a LAN are REQUIRED to echo ICMP requests (respond to a ping). Although they do not the fact that they are passing packets along are evidence enough that everything is working fine. No problem here whatsoever.

Looks good...
hops 2 - 5 are set up to not respond to udp requests...same for me on hops 2 and 3 here...

Additionally going 17 Hops in 10ms,,, very hard to believe.
Then add to the fact you got a 20ms hit on your first HOP?
See Yow and i are thinking alike . I thought that was weird to . Maybe i'm just paranoid . But, I see how my service is and i think that the tracert looks odd . It never even looked like that before the @home switch . They day they switched boom hops 2-5 blocked and the "good" pings . Too bad i have a bad connection with good pings

Wow , My tracert looks really odd . It seems like for one i have extra hops and for two all the ping times are basically the same . Plus the lost hops . Well all this plus more probably equals why i have to reload the pages so much and why my connection has weird latencies at times whil gaming .:(

The hops aren't "lost". The absence of pings is an intentional choice by the owner of the router. Has no impact upon your performance.
Kip
thanks for the tip kip:cool:

Kip correct,,,,
Vic451, My point was I don't belive your ping results from a speed point of view; but if they are true you have the best connection to the internet I have ever seen for a home connection that is. lol, not that I go around checking everyones home connection.
Putting it another way, I would take your connection.
I believe that i've figured out my weird results . My ip isn't on the traceroute at all that's comcasts new proxy . That D@mn proxy has screwed all the sites that detect my ip for identity , and i cannot renew my virus definitions .

earthmofo; do you have the newest firmware on your router?
if you "downgrade" it to teh previous version it will fix your tracert probs
Kip Patterson

Yes, you are going through their proxy for browsing. Our server sees the proxy's IP, not yours.
But, the proxy is only used for browsing. Your trace route doesn't go through it.
I'm not sure what the deal is with the pings being in increments of 10ms, but I've seen it before. The numbers are probably correct, +/- 5 ms. No reason why you shouldn't see very low pings for that path.

I upgraded the Linksys firmware last week to 1.42.3. I will try and downgrade it. Thanks for the info.

Just downgraded the Linksys firmware back to 1.40.2 and solved the tracett problem. BaLa, why does the new firmware affect the tracert like that???

Because Linksys is like Cracker Jacks - a surprise in every package.
They just don't seem to do much of a job of testing their software before release.
Kip
Actually the 6th hop that i censored . I realized is actually the ip of the proxy as detected by a couple of different proxy detectors. So it still goes through the proxy no matter what.
