OK, here's the deal in a nutshell. I've been working on a buddy's system and he has a satellite modem to connect to the internet. The problem is as soon as we installed everything, the system became unstable. After contacting the modem company, the satellite company. reinstalling windows, reinstalling the modem, reinstalling AOL Broadband, (i know...AOL.....yuk) and loading up the newest bios and drivers....... all in various combinations, still the same crap. Anyone have any ideas on how to make the system and the satellite modem get along?

The system doesn't show any conflicts with any of the peripherals on it, but i think a soundcard may be suspect in some way. The modem is connected by USB. The primary system instability occurs when trying to play media files like videos or mp3's whether it be in Winamp or Media Player or Morpheus....it doesn't seem to be application specific. I've done everything i know with no luck. Any ideas?

For starters, if the modem will connect via NIC - change it. What OS are you running? Also you can't tweak AOL for better speed.:(

Likely the sound card isn't playing nice with your system when sharing IRQs. Try changing slots, or even replacing the sound card. As mnosteele52 pointed out, switching to a NIC may also help matters.
