I just can't figure it out... I need help... Desperately :,-(

I have an ADSL connection through a ZyXel 642R-router and a switch (two computers plugged into it on my home-lan)

Now I want to be able to host online-games or Netmeeting but I can't figure out how to do! I assigned my puter's ip to the default SUA-server (in the router's management software) and port number 80 (WWW) as well.

Why can't anybody still ping my puter??? And... How would they have to do it? if my external address is for example 100.101.102.103, why can't another puter connect to me by entering 100.101.102.103:80?

I'm a newbie in networking and definitely in need of help :-(((

Do I have to install some kind of server program???

Your provider may be blocking that port due to the Code Red virus. Many Cable and DSL providers have done so.

Try posting here:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/equip,9

It is a forum dedicated solely to Netgear/ZyXel routers.

Goodluck

By setting your pc internal IP ( ie. 192.168.x.x ) as the DMZ you should be able to run Netmeeting just fine by giving someone your external ip address.

Yep, your Internet provider likely blocked incoming connections to port 80 for your service. Simply change the port on SUA and on your software to something else, like 8080.
