Hey All,

I recently got the K7S5A board with the onboard SIS 900 ethernet card and I cant get the card to work with my 3COM cable modem.

Currently I use a SMC 1211TX NIC but I want to use the onboard NIC instead to free up an IRQ (plus I also believe there is a stability issue when gaming online). The SMC NIC works fine, so I know that the problem is not with the connection or the cable modem.

I have installed all the new drivers for the SIS900, I have copied all the parameters for the TCP/IP as well as the NIC advanced page. It will not work at all. I leave the onboard NIC as auto-detect, then try 10T and 100TX and no combination will work.

Is there some compatibility issue that is preventing this from working, are there settings that I am missing?

The only options available on the advanced tab of the onboard nic are: delay time (0), media type (auto-detect) and network address (not present). Like I said, I tried every combo of auto-detect and I cannot establish a connection.

Any ideas or comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, i have the same Mainboard and use the SIS900 as a pppoe connection, it works fine.
please tell me the type of OS you use
i use WIN98SE and updated the BIOS to the latest release because of major bugs in previous releases.
Maybe the Problem is the other NIC you had installed, please make sure, that you remove all drivers of the NIC including the protocols in the NETWORKSETTINGS.

If this not works use a tool hidden in the c:\windows\ folder called winipcfg.exe there choose release all
and then choose renew all
(it only works if you have no static IP assigned).

hope it helps ;)

Reset your modem. It will not accept a new NIC until you power it off or reset it.
