You may just want to network the computers and transfer them that way. Or you could take the HD out of the old computer and set it as the slave on the new computer. Then just drag/drop from windows explorer onto the new computers HD.

Like AAF says, I find that for transferring files, or especially when replacing/upgrading computers, what I do is, on the new computer, remove the cd-rom, pop in the hard drive from the old computer. Boot up the new computer, through "My Computer", you will almost always see the old hard drive as your "D" drive, or whatever drive letter, depending on your new computers setup. Anyways, I often make a directory on the new computers C drive called OldHD....and copy the contents of the old computer to that. I do that on many setups with clients because they may "think" they know all the files, etc that they want...often a few weeks later remember something else critical they needed, so since I copied the entire hard drive over...it's all there.

Or if you know the one or two directories you want, just copy that over easily.

Couldn't you use a crossover cable as well? THat would be networking them but wouldn't it cut out the need for a switch?

Probobly wrong but I am curiuos.
