I have Win2K Pro and sometimes it would just solidly crash on me { it doesn't even shut down when I push the button } It did it today and the last time from today was about three weeks back . Anyone knows what it can be . Not the vid card or the psu cause I recently upgraded both{ from when it fist did it { old parts } to know { new } } Any help ? My system is not oc'd in any way . Not even my vid card
Those types of freeze ups are generally hardware related. Either bad ram, CPU too hot etc. Or a hardware driver, as in Vid card driver. Since it happens with new or old vid card it may not be the vid card or it's driver, but then again coincidences DO happen.
Try updating to the latest driver.
Check your event logs, there may be something there to point you to what the trouble is.
Hard to pin down these errors sometimes.
BTW - You can shut down your PC by holding the power button down for 5 seconds or so.

It shuts down when I hold the power button for 5 sec like it always did but normal shutdown doens't work like it should . Nothing works :(
Ok, I gottcha now :)
Have you been to MS update and got the service pack (I think it's sp2) that may help if you haven't got them yet. The service pack was a 100 MB file that took care of many Win2K bugs.

Try this, take all your pci cards out and just leave the video card. Then after everythings removed from your registry start setting one card in at a time checking after installation if the irq is in a resonable place. then shutdown , reboot and goto the next card, and so on and so forth. Usualy these kinda lockups are conflictions, becouse if it was bad hardware 9 times out of ten youll get ither bsod(blue screens of death) or a fatal error of some sort. Amd`s advice is to start with your sound after video then to network or modems.

I already have SP2 and it cannot be one of the cards conflicting casue it happens only onece in a while when Windows have just finisihed loading
As Norm said before, to easily find the problem check your event log very carefully, all the activities during the time of the freeze there should be something there like a memory dump of some sort. In my opinion its the video card, the reason is, there are no certified drivers for vodoo 5 so you are using some crapy third party drivers which are most likely unstable.
