I'm very hard core into gaming, esp online FPS. I preferred 98SE over 2K, but I now use XP Pro....love it. Just have the horsepower to run it, at least a mid level PIII, and 512 megs.

Hmmm, apps load WAY quicker in XP for me, especially once you use it for over a month, and it "learns" which apps you use, and optimizes them.
XP doesn't lock up at all for me, but neither did 2K, and neither did 98SE.
Win2K was built to primarily be a business operating system first, not multimedia, XP has it all.
RAM use, yes, it's more, and more CPU hungry too. But thankfully RAM and CPUs are dirt cheap these days.
