At least two modems - the Toshiba PCX2000 and the Motorola SB4200 - are sold WITHOUT manufacturer's support and warrantee.
You must obtain all support and warrantee replacement from the cable company or other vendor that sold it to you.
Kip
Thats true of almost all the products you buy. Unless you buy directly from the manufacturer. Which not too many people can do.

I'm not aware of any computer products that do not have manufacturer's support and warranties, with the exception of these modems. Can you give me some examples?
Thanks,
Kip
Think of anything, say
RAM, 99% of all RAM is manufactured in Asia, if you buy Ramat CompUSA, and it is no good, you take it back to CompUSA you dont call or send it to Asia.

I should have said equipment, you're certainly right about ram.
You should take a look at the Magnusson-Moss act which governs warrantys. Almost every product sold in the US is warranteed by the manufacturer, not the dealer.
Kip
Sure, but,
Say you bought a Cisco Systems 678DMT Router from Qwest for your DSL Internet service. They come with a 1 year MANUFACTURERS Warentee.
If it dies 6 months later. Are you going to send it to call Cisco Systems in Sunnyvalle, California or are you going to call Qwest and have them walk you through a few tests. When Qwest determines that the router is toast they are going to have you send it to Qwest, not Cisco.
This is the same thing. You rarely send a product to the Manufacturer of the product UNLESS you purchased it directly from them. You ALMOST ALWAYS return the product to "the place of purchase", because 99% of manufacturers will not sell the the general public.
:D
Even if there is no written warrentee, from the Manufacturer of a product (any product) there is ALWAYS an implied warrentee that the product is in good working order. The "buyer beware" sindrome is against he law.
I have never heard of any Computer Electronics that don't have a minimum of at least a 90 day warentee. I have been a Network Administrator for going on 8 years. Todate, I return all defective components to the place of purchase, I have NEVER returned or even called a Manufacturer.
