DSL USB + AMD based PC

I own a Athlon 1700 XP computer with a DSL via USB Modem internet connection. Now and then my connection falls down. According to my ISP provider this is due to the fact that AMD based computers do not support 100% USB DSL Modems, My Internet provider suggest that mother board manufacturer should provide a patch for it.
Does anybody know anything about that?

Your ISP needs smacked for saying that.

What's your OS and your motherboard? Do you have an option of an ethernet one?
