I have been experimenting with the above mentioned and have the following enquires, hope you wizards in can assist me:

In dialup adapter selection, i have the followings:

1 Dialup adapter,
2 Efficient Network Virtual Miniport,
3 Microsoft PPP over ATM adapter
4 Speedstream 4060 Miniport ATM/ADSL adapter.

I have tried for the followings

Dialup adapter - rwin = 256960 (works fine), values larger then that connection cannot be detected
Efficient Network Virtual Miniport- not tested
Microsoft PPP over ATM adapter - not tested
Speedstream 4060 Miniport ATM/ADSL adapter. - values from 256960 to 513920 works fine, values 128480 and lesser, the connection is not detected by the modem

The problem is I hope that anybody can advise me on which adapter should I select. Please advise, will be back tommorow to check your posting. Thanks

Depends on which OS you are running. In Win2000, right click 'my computer', then 'properties', 'hardware', 'device manager', click on the device you use to get to the Internet.

With that info we'll know if you're using a modem, NIC, USB, etc.

I am usinh win98SE alright,

under device manager, dialup adapter, i have the followings:
dialup adapter, Efficient Networks Virtual miniport , Microsoft PPP over ATM adapter and SpeedStream 4060 miniport ATM/ADSL adapter. Since I have all these 4 devices, which one should i select for the TCPoptimiser? That is the reason why i am confused.....:(

Furthermore, I have tried the above and results are as above.

Okay. That clears things up a bit. So many devices… so many choices. Do this. Go here (http://www.testmyspeed.com/) and run a test. Post the results back here at SG.

*edit* Lets see what's going on. Maybe 56K.. maybe DSL speeds. Who knows! Should be fun!

Please click in my signature where it says TCP/IP Analyzer Test tweak here, then:
At top where it says edit click and select, Select all,
Then go back to same edit button at top, click and select copy.
Come back to Speed Guide, same thread you were on, in post reply box, with cursor blinking at begining of box go to top, edit, click, select paste, click, this will put information in box. Please X out your IP address, Thank you.:)

I just thought of something, download, install TCP Optimizer, it should tell you adapter there?:)

That is the problem, all the above mentioned dialup adapter also showed up. That is why it is confusing. Results are also as posted in the above thread. Please advice, thanks :(

TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 51 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
