That question you had about RAMDISK you can ask Norm at Speedcorp:)

Ask me here instead.

Lobo, do u know how to put your tcp/ip settings in a ramdisk? :)

Norm

No sorry I don't

Doesn't the TCP protocol load into ram anyway?

What would the advantage of putting it into a ramdrive be?

I heard about your new name, sorry your speeds have gone downhill there Lobo.
maybe things will pick up a bit when the changes are all done.

Try taking the TCP files out of the ramdrive :D hehe

Thanks Lobo, the question I had Norm was.... how or can you put your tcp/ip settings onto a ramdrive? I've read some articles, but it's not clear on what or how to do it (or if it can be done). I had my IE temp cache on my ramdrive and didn't really notice any benefit. I guess a better question would be what is the best way to utilize a ramdrive for internet speed? Any info would be helpful, thanks.:)

To put your TCP files on the ramdrive there is an article at broadbandnuts (Lobo can direct you there since he's familiar with the site) It's been labeled "the crazy mans tweak" and isn't for the less knowledgeable users. If not done properly, and if you can't fix any problems that may arise from a mistake, your PC may not even boot to windows. If you decide to try it, be careful, and follow instructions to the letter.
The guys at that site have done a lot of testing and seem to think having this tweak is worthwhile for a couple of reasons. They say it improves ping time, and improves IE/TCP protocol load time, possibly other improvements too.
It has always been my opinion that since these files load to ram anyway, how could loading them to a ramdrive improve anything, but I'm not about to argue a point when I haven't tested it, and have no intention of starting a flame war with the guys at the site who started this tweak. They have helped a lot of people for nothing and I appreciate all they do, and have done.

When writing to ram, or a ramdrive, the latency will always be less, since a HD read/write takes a lot longer than writing to ram.
This is an advantage of a ramdrive, it acts like a HD but is a lot faster.

As for putting the IE cache on a ramdrive, the speed increase is fairly small, not even noticable. I put my cache on a ramdrive for other reasons. It saves my HD from being written to while surfing, less drive action. I also put my downloads on the ramdrive to save my HD from overuse as well..
When I reboot, the ramdrive, and my IE cache are deleted since ram is cleared when power goes off.
I don't want a cache taking up space on my HD.

Try the tweak mentioned re: TCP files to ramdrive.
It will be at the very least a good learning experience, and may just increase your speeds. Let us know what you think of it.
I'll be trying it someday, but right now I have little time for experimenting.
