I have an AMD800, 612 Ram, 30GB hard drive, Windows 98 with a toshiba modem hooked up by USB. For some reason I'm only getting around 62K download. I've pinged a couple of sites after deleting all my cookies, cache, etc. The company came out said the line is good and hooked up their own laptop and they uploaded at 267K and I think their download was like 3001K. Well, I thought the USB might be the problem so I switched to my ethernet card but it still runs the same. Can anyone help because they said it was on my end and they couldn't do anything about it?
Thanks in advance,
Michael :(

Hi Michael, welcome to Speed Guide.

Lobo is correct. You should use the NIC with the modem instead of the USB connection. USB will really slow you down though that is not your only problem.

Take the SG TCP/IP Analizer test available here http://forums.speedguide.net:8117/ then copy and past the results here in a reply to this thread. Please X out your IP address. Once you're hooked up to the NIC and have taken the test we'll be able to help you with your speeds.

take out some ram until you get it down to 512 or less. Windows 98 cannot handle more than that, so that could be doing it. Most people even have better performance with 256 instead of 512. Try it and tell me if it helps.
