my win386.swp file is in my c: drive..not c:/windows and i can't delete it......whats the best way to delete it?

since i have 320mb of ram, its taking 640mb of my disk space

does this mean that the swp file is full..or means i have an extra 640mb of space for virtual memory....i think its full because i've never seen it before in the c: drive

i have win 98 se

help! thanks....)

Don't worry about it. You can delete it (send me $5.00 ;) ) but it'll be back the next time you restart your computer. You can adjust it's size but that's about it. Really... I've done a lot of messing with the file and it's not worth the time (even tried to move it to the RAMdrive)

*edit*

I did find that it contains information about edits you might have done to documents (an audit trail). That bothered me a bunch (as I do work for the government and having those edits held in the swap file is a pain). However... unless you have people on the inside that spy on people on the inside... it doesn't matter.

$5.00 ;)

Hi.

I had the same problem for a while, and then i found out you could modify it, and you can delete it. The way that you delete it, is by letting the computer handle the virtual memory, and then deleting it (if it still is there).

bye.

You can delete it from Dos using a Win98 startup disk

del c:\win386.swp

or - If it's in the windows dir

del c:\windows\win386.swp

You can put the swap file on the ramdrive by editing the registry, but it's redundant. The swap file is there for when you run out of ram, if you use the ramdrive for the swap file, you'll need it it that much sooner cause you have that much less ram for windows to use.

Doh!!
