is it possible that with all the transfering and stuff going on with @home and all the new changes that they put something in there new software they sent out thats not allowing routers to work???? cause i have the ISB soho and its been working great up until now. comcast guy was here before instaleld a new cable modem cause the other one was bad. and now when i hooked back up my router to the new modem the router is having problems trying to get my computers ip address. i keep checking the status page on the isb soho and its not loging in my ip address. any help would be great
I got same prob with my Nexland pro 400 since they update to comcast.net

believe it or not i just got off the phone with nexland and the problem is fixed! they said there has been many costumers calling up with the same problem like us. what you have to do is go to static IP and DNS option in the router browers and manually put in your isp information. simple as that. i think comcast had some kind of thing that was messing up the nexland routers.

Its affecting Linky's too - another thread in this forum. I set mine to static and it works. The tech who was out here said that once the cutover happens in late January, they will actually be using DHCP. I don't want to have to keep swapping out my box and my router to get my lease info.
If I point my browser to 192.168.100.1, I get the configuration screen for my surfboard modem. My Linky can be assigned any LAN address in the 192.168.x.x range. Can these routers handle private addressing on both LAN and WAN interfaces?
Their way of forcing us to buy more ip's?

I'll try that because I though they will change the IP everytime you logon and they will give me a new one and so on

They may start doing so. When they do, you will have to remove the router, re-configure your PC for direct connection, connect to the DHCP server and write down all the info. Then undo all that you just did.
A real pain.

I have a Windows XP Pro system with @Home cable modem that I'd like to set up so that my daughter's computer can share my connection. What's the best route?
Here were suggestions made:
1. Get a hub and buy the extra IP @Home will force me to.
2. Get a router and don't need the extra IP.
3. Get another ethernet card for my pc and hook her computer into my second ethernet card. (Wondering if this is even valid).
Thanks in advance.

Skye  that makes no sense.

We are dealing with a situation in which a Linky cannot obtain a DHCP lease where a PC on the LAN is able to do so.
I read in another post that the Surfboards (and perhaps others, as well) have a LAN ip of 192.168.100.1 If you use the default Linky network settings (192.168.x.x) then you will have problems. The solution (working for me thusfar) is to change that LAN ip scheme to something in another private range (I use 172.16.x.x). Since making that change I am able to obtain a lease.

you can get a cheap hub and use the ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) feature. XP makes it pretty simple to setup the first system to share the connection. Use the Network Setup wizard.
Actually, all three of the other suggestions are valid also.
