When I start burning a cd everything goes fine, then at diff. times in the burning process it gives me a "SCSI Hostadapter Error". I don't know what this means and can't find anything in the help index about it. I've tried 3 diff. versions of nero and now have 6 coasters.

Any ideas ??

TIA

The problem seems to be a communication problem between the recorder and the SCSI host adapter. To solve it you have to change the BIOS settings of your SCSI host adapter. Please press Ctrl+A during booting up your PC to enter the 'SCSI Select Utility'. Then select'Configure/View Host Adapter Setting' and 'SCSI Device Configuration'. In this menu change the following parameters of the SCSI Id you have connected your recorder:

Initiate Sync Negotiation: No
Maximum Sync Transfer Rate: 5 or 10

After re-booting your PC the recorder should work fine

I did find this on their page but the problem is none of these setings are in my fasttrack100 bios.

If you are using a mainboard which has an Onboard-SCSI controller, then for certain graphics cards you should make sure that they are not allocated the same IRQ as the Onboard-SCSI controller as many cards are not capable of sharing IRQs, e.g. graphics cards with the Riva TNT chip set.

The onboard RAID controller is on it' own IRQ.

I have to go get some food now, but the only thing I saw on that page thatis what I quoted here. Thanks for the help Ken, I'll look over it some more when I get back.

I really do appreciate the help, very much, but it is past time for me to format( I should have done this a month ago but got lazy). I usually format every 2 months just so I don't get out of practice. I think I have installed something that changed some setting somewhere. I know it can't be in my scsi controller b/c there are no settings that can be changed in the lite bios, also I was burning cd's w/ no problem about 2 weeks ago but .... I play around w/ alot of diff. programs, install, uninstall, install, uninstall, if you know what I mean.

So a format comes tom. :) (the easy way out)

Thanks again. :)

I have a new problem for you now ken. Now when trying to burn a cd(data), I get a "could not perform fixation." error, I'm looking for solutions as you read this. I'm going to try and uninstall the Via idebusmaster thing and see if it will work then, if not I'm going to start usin ez cd creator. I don't know why these problems have just started.

thanks.

I have found that the best software to use for a burner is the one that came with it. It has been tested and known to work.
Other software can work too.
I'm not dissing Nero or other software here, but the manufacturer usually sends the software they know works.

Well I use nero b/c I burn alot of music cd's, it gives me more audi filter options than ezcd.

But the good news is I just got it to work, I got in a desperate state(after burning 12 coasters, who wouldn't :))
I uninstalled the ide busmaster utility,
burned @ 12x instead of 16x,
unchecked load anti virus @ startup, and
changed my cache size.

I don't know why it worked but I'm happy, now all I have to do is find out WHY it worked THIS time. I forsee more coasters by the time I figure it out.

Burning at the slower speeds does help to get a better burn. Sometimes another part of the system can't keep up with the burner to keep something in the buffer.

I forgot about Nero's cache size adjustment, I wish EZ CD had that option.

Well at least you can burn, and use Nero :)

Happy copying.....

Well, I just found the problem, it is the speed. :( It will not burn at 16x, only 12x. What's the point of having a 16x burner if I can't use it and the most important question is why is it just startin this ?? I would think a RAID array would have no problem keeping up with the burner. I ahd no problems with a single drive doing it, I'm confused.

Anyhow thanks for the hel... oh wait you didn't help me did ya:p, I'm just messin with ya, I'm sure you would have helped if this problem had happened to you b4. I wouldn't want to make you mad, I've seen you help many ppl b4, including me.

thanks for helping.

Have you tried shuting down ALL running apps and services that are not essential to the system. Is there something fairly new you are running in the background now that wasn't running before the problem?

Is your HD a bit fragged maybe ?

Just throwing out ideas, maybe lead you to think of something too. It's probably not the burner, but a slight bottleneck somewhere else on the system.

I don't get mad, I get even by watching the jerks suffer when they need answers :D

np man, you don't get out of line :)

That's what I thought maybe a new program or something but I just did a format and reinstall yesterday, and haven't installed anything out of the ordinary, I don't even have all my apps installed yet. I also just got done running defrag(norton speeddisk) right before I tried burning. Nothing in the background unusual, I know you'll prolly freak when I tell ya what's running but it's normal to me.

1. ZA pro
2. F@H
3. F@H 2
4. Genome@H
5. Seti@H
6. Systray
7. Norton AV stuff
8. and the normal things like explorer.

I'll just have to try trial and error, I guess, like I said I can already see more coasters in my future.

That IS a lot running in back. Try a burn at full speed after you turn them all off, just to test. I'm not familiar with all those apps, just a few of them.

Doesn't SETI take a lot of resources? Doesn't it use a lot of CPU cycles?
Norton uses a lot when it's scanning in back, but you mentioned that is off when you burn.

everything closed but explorer, still doesn't burn @ 16x.

a question, do you know or have you ever heard what "hidserv" is ?? that's what it is called in the close program box.

edit: just found out what "hidserv" is, something snooping around my pc. found it on google.

using the latest plextor firmware?
how about the latest mobo BIOS?

is burn proof activated?
try a different blank CD brand rated at least 16x
