The LAN side of my DI-704 works beautifully (computers grab IP, ping eachother, ping router), including being able to connect and config the router. But, the WAN side won't seem to work. I'm using a PC as a router on the WAN side, and it can't communicate with the DI-704 whatsoever. I've tried patch cable, and don't get any LED. I tried Crossover cable, and get an LED, but no communication whatsoever. I've tried it with two different NIC's, and get the same result. I've manually set the IP on the DLINK, nogo. I've also installed DHCP on the computer on the WAN side and had it try grabbing and IP, nothing.

Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You!! :D

can you access the net at all?

perhaps you need to clone the MAC address...

I tried cloning the MAC Address, which didn't seem to change anything. I can't get through it at all, either. :(

This sounds very confusing
Exactly how you got this hooked up?

Your modem plugs into the DLINK WAN port
All your PC's should plug into the DLINK ports numbered 1-4

I'm very sorry for the confusion. :(

I have one computer on the WAN side which is setup as a router. I can't ping the DLINK from this computer (WAN Side).

Everything on the LAN side is fine (3 other machines), other than the fact that I can't ping the computer on the WAN side (ping through the DLINK). The WAN Link Light is intermittent with crossover cable, and nonexistent with patch cable (to the router computer).

I've updated to version 2.56 Build 20, but hasn't helped. Do you think that maybe the built in firewall is blocking the ping? But if that was the case, why is the link sometimes intermittent?

Again, I know this sounds like a totally f'ed up setup, but it's the only way I can do what I need right now. ;)

Thanks so much for your time and patience. THANK YOU!! :)

Prolly the firewall, dude. Which is very likely what's going on with mine. I was able to ping the outside IP of the router and intermittently able to ping the PC on the WAN side, it's just going to take a little bit of configuring. ;)

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll let you know what happens! :D

My brother has the DI-704, and I set it up for him,
using ADSL. Once I cloned the MAC address, it
worked fine accessing the NET....

Ok, I apologize for any confusion, but this is what I'm trying to do.

I do not have Broadband, yet, but will in the future.
I am currently trying to set the DLINK up between systems, so I can experiment with it for school.
I have 3 systems on the LAN Side.
I have 1 system on the WAN Side.
From the LAN side I can ping both sides of the router (LAN IP, WAN IP).
I cannot ping from any computer on the LAN side to the computer on the WAN side, and vice versa, thus making it seem like the router is not forwarding requests, packets, etc.
All LED's are Green (LAN,WAN, etc.)
M1 Light is blinking (Normal Operation)
The DLINK doesn't grab an IP from the computer running DHCP on the WAN side.
Even with a Static IP, the computer on the WAN side still can't ping the DLINK.

I hope this clarifies things. I'm sorry if it sounds boring, and anyone's lost interest, but I don't know what to do.

Thank You so much for your help, everyone! :D

I run the DI-704 as well. Im not certain how old yours is but there is a firmware upgrade that took care of all My problems. (which were similiar to yours) go to the d-link website and download di704_firmware_255b15.
Hope this Helps

The default firmware on my Bro's DI-704
is v256beta20 which seems to be the latest,
[released 03 DEC 2001]
from what I can see on the DLINK site
