ok....my company had to switch to another provider because the old one pulled out of the city.......

the old provider gave enough valid ips on the net for all the clients in the office.......the new on does not....so.....got a lynksys router so i could convert them all to private ip's....enough for all the machines here... and get the benifit of NAT.

well got my DHCP scope configured for the internal network and all but 5 clients can get online.

all NT boxes have no problem.
its the win98 and 95 boxes causing the problem.
some of the 95 and 98 clients CAN get on.....the others cant.

just for the record....im stepping into someone elses mess here....they had a company that came out and did all the initial setup......some of the machines used proxy and some didnt.

i just want to eliminate the use of proxy ....thus all the machines are set in IE not to detect proxy or use a config script or use a proxy......

i have tried to reset default settings in ie....no luck
i have tried to install a recent ver of IE....no luck.

one thing that is very odd though is that there is DNS resolution....i can see the ip addy im trying to reach in the bottom of the IE window......but the bar just keeps going on and on and never gets there
LMHOSTS isnt enabled either.

DHCP on the Lynksys is disabled....the DHCP scope is residing on the NT small buisness server the server takes the ip of 192.168.1.2.....and the scope range is 192.168.1.100-192.168.1.200

any help is appreciated

Dump the network stack and reload it on the 9x machines.

Have you tried disabling the DHCP on the server and enabling it on the router to rule out a server configuration problem?

Are your 9X machines set to login to the NT domain?
(Example: a 3 line login box Name, Password, Domain)
Are they logging into the right domain?

Im grasping at straws now.....
