I may have missed the info somewhere, but here is my question. Has anyone setup a single port Linksys (BEFSR11) router with a five port Linksys switch (EZXS55W) for a couple of PC's to share the bandwidth on a AresCom DSL modem? I would like to avoid setting one as a gateway (and hence mutiple LAN cards).
The response from the MSN is "we don't support that configuration".
I have tried multiple changes and setups and was wondering if there is a MAC address issue? I seem to get some connectivity, but with quite a few pauses.

'Thanks' for any info or input.

Welcome to SpeedGuide!

Your Linksys switch should have no problem connecting to your router. Bare in mind that in order to achieve proper connectivity, you will need to either connect a straight through LAN cable from your router to the uplink port of your switch, or get a crossed over cable to connect your router to a LAN port on your switch. Once you do this, anything connected to that switch should see your router, and obtain DHCP info if configured correctly on the router.

'Thanks', this is a great forum for covering issues and some really good resolutions. I just hope someone has this configuration working.
Well the router switch combo works just fine as does the DSL direct to the PC LAN card. When I try to run the DSL modem and router combo is where things do not work.
More specific, I enable DHCP and point the configuration to the router and can see the assigned IP. But I cannot access mail and there are several seconds of pauses just trying to open a page, if it opens at all.
On the router, there is a switch to enable straight through or crossover.
So right now, I just went direct to my PC, but would like to get the router into the configuration.

Qwest? Get their Cisco 678 router (about $150 from them) and hook it up to a switch! Don't use the Linksys.

This begs the question, have you had/heard of issues with the Linksys router???? What is the big difference between the two (other then the obvious respect of Cisco for quality)?
So the Cisco can be requested/ordered from QWest then?

Here is why everyone is having problems with the Arescom / Linksys setup:

Bear in mind - if you want to use a Linksys router with the Arescom, you will have to change the Linksys's LAN address to something other than it's standard 192.168.1.1, as this is the same LAN address the Arescom uses. Just change it to something like 192.168.0.1 instead - this works perfectly fine.

Without this change you have an obvious conflict!

"Thanks". I setup the IP differently which helped, but the web page loading was REALLY slow not to mention not being able to access email at all (using Outlook Express).
I might have missed something when I was setting this up. Do you have this configuration currently working? If so, would you mind sending the steps you ran through to setup the router?

The Cisco 678 is a combination RADSL modem and router. If you can't do what you need with a Cisco, then you can't do it at all. Yes, Qwest will sell it to you.
