Ok I got a new cable modem today and it works great when connected to my nic, but when I connect it to the router, the router wont pick up the IP from the cable provider...also if this matters, when I plug the cable modem into the netcard the light on the cable modem lights up for 100mb but when I plug it into the WAN port of the router it doesnt like up 100mb, I have the latest firmware 1.4 for the router....The router worked fine for the Toshiba pcx1000

Who is you Internet Provider?

That will make a difference on how to set up the ROUTER.

Are they DYNAMIC? Do you use DHCP? Configure the router correctly to accept DHCP. That will allow the router to get the IP automatically. I think they are still using HOST NAMES? If so make sure that the router has the correct HOSTNAME in it.

Yes cox used dynamic, I dont need a hostname, and I havent change anything on the router.....I think the modem is being gay it has a dhcp on it also

Well, it does not sound like your modem is being gay. Instead it sounds like the mac address of your nic may be what is being cached on the dhcp server. When your router attempts to request the lease, the authentication fails because it is a different mac address. You would need to confirm this with RoadRunner to be certain.

JOE maybe right.

A lot of the new services that are replacing the OLD @HOME network, run on MAC address. You have to authenticate the new MAC onto the system.

well I have another comp and tried the cable modem on that one and it works, so its not the mac address, I even faked my router with my nic cars mac address, still no go, and yesterday it worked with the toshiba modem but I just switched modems today and it sucks
