I am copying down all the numbers I can in preperation for the Comcast transistion. Some have told me that Comcast will use the first MAC address it sees when they change over, while others have told me they will use the origional MAC address that I had when I signed up. Unfortunatly, I have no idea what that MAC address is (I changed computers). I also have added a Linksys router. Now I have three MAC address possibilities. So, I went to my SB3100 config screen and copied down all the MAC addresses and IP addresses I could find. Now my question....which MAC address is the active one that the system is using....HFC MAC or Ethernet MAC? Neither of these two matches my NIC or router MAC so I am assuming that @Home is still using the host name. I suspect the MAC listed in HFC or Ethernet is from my old NIC....no problem. I can clone that number in my router. All I need to know is which one do I need to clone in to the router? HFC MAC or Ethernet MAC. All this may be unnecessary if Comcast will use the first MAC they see at the changeover (my router MAC), but I am getting as prepared as possible just in case. Thanks for any help.

The MAC address is an identifier code used for NICs, cable modems, and routers, etc. If they use the first MAC address they find and you have your router connected, then that's what will be setup for your account. If they use the first NIC they assigned you, then you might have to 'spoof' the MAC address of that NIC to your router. Basically, you'd just be 'fooling' your ISP into seeing your router as a different MAC address -- the one of the first NIC they gave you. The worst case scenario is that you'd have to call your ISP to give them the MAC address of your router.
