Hey guys, just got back from vacation and spent my first few hours reading all the posts I missed. I'm still about three weeks out for my DSL service turn-up and am trying to learn all I can BEFORE I jump into the fire. My question involves having two E-mail addresses with one internet account. I will be running two PCs (eventually adding a laptop) on a DSL router with 4 ports. I'm very new to networking (hdwe and sftw aspects) and am a little confused as to how the ISP will know which computer ( or IP) is requesting their mail. I searched the forum first and didn't see much activity on this topic. I read one post about not getting mail at all and the solution, but I'm a little more concerned about having two addresses for one account. Any assistance (tute links, step-by-step, personal experience, actual settings, etc) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Your computer(s) email client will tell the ISP's mail server what email it wants. That is totally configurable by you. You can direct your email client to check ANY email account. In other words, if I gave you my email info; server info, name, password, you could check my email from your computer, no matter what your ISP is.
Most email clients can handle more than one email account. I have my Eudora client checking 5 email addresses and then on my other PC (connected to Net via router) checks one email address using Outlook.
You tell the software what to do, and then it contacts the servers you direct it to and then downloads the email.
Did that sufficiently confuse you? ;)

Thanks Silver, at least I know now that it should be relatively simple to configure, ...no magic potions or bones and ashes required. Thanks for the quick response. Later.
LOL! You're welcome. Good luck getting that setup. Once you get into it, it's not that difficult. It's usually most difficult just finding where to place the setup info!
