Ramdisk

Everytime I install ramdisk I get this error. This is the Arsoft driver. I already tried Microsoft same thing.
Z:\ is not accessible.
Incorrect Function

Check your device manager. I think you will see:

"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"

I have not yet gotten that one to load with XP.... the M$ one will not work with XP. If you just want to use a ramdisk for your IE temp files there are a couple of other out there or PM me.

figure it out went to control panel and switched it to emulate hard disk.Then pulled the crazyman tweak.

Well that puts you one up on me. I was using the the ramdrive tweak in W2K, but am still unable to get it to load in XP pro.

What version did you use? When you d/l it has a W2K version and an NT version.

When I get a chance to type it out I'll post how I got it to work and what issues I ran into.

the guides we wrote should work fine in 2K and 9x

as far as XP, theoretically the 2K ramdisk should still work however, I have not tested it on XP yet

I know it works and works GREAT may I say in W2K.....the M$ driver that. Used it for quite awhile. I gave up on the AR soft ram drive in XP.

I am using the SuperSpeed but it sets up as a virual bus device so I don't think it will work for the net tweak. I do check the other forum almost everyday thanks.

***** BEFORE CARRYING OUT THIS PROCEDURE I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU CREATE A RESTORE POINT.********

1. Install the ramdisk program as the administrator under safe mode
2. To do this reboot the computer when it is rebooting from the start hit the f8 key until the safe mode section pops up choose the safe mode.
3. When the computer starts to load windows you will see the log on buttons one should say administrator remember your password?
4. Once windows Xp has finished rebooting.
5. Double-click the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard applet in Control Panel.
6. Select Add/Troubleshoot a Device.
7. Select Add a new device.
8. Select No, I Want to Select the Hardware from a list.
9. Select Other Devices and then click Next.
10. Click Have Disk and point to the directory (wher you have extracted the
driver files) that contains ramdisk.inf file.
11. If everything went ok you should see the computer load a new memory device.
12. Next reboot normally.
13. Then reboot again and reboot in safe mode as the administrator again.
14. Open up the control panel and you should see an Icon of a ram stick double klik on it and adjust the size of the ram you would like to allocate default is 1 meg.
15. When your done reboot normally then open up your windows explorer you should see the ram drive listed as Z: which is the default drive letter.
16. If you dont see the drive you may have allocated to much ram. I have went as high as 96 megs no prob but at 128 it wouldnt work the drive disappeared.

Are all of your partitions NTFS? If so you need to make a change in your registry. Open REGEDIT and browse to HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\fastfat\ Change the 'Start' setting from 4 to 1. Of course do a backup of your registry first :)

I'm using XP Pro with NTFS partitions and utilizing Microsoft's 'Ramdisk' driver. Go to http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?threadid=70091 for complete instructions on how I got it to work.

Basically what happens is if all of your partitions are NTFS WinXP will not load it's 'FAT' driver which is why you can't see the ramdrive. Making that registry change will have XP load the driver on every restart.
