Hi all.

My dad just installed win 2000 pro on my comp yesterday, and suggested that the installation was'nt easy. He said that when installing, each time he restarted the computer to finish the install, it got further and further into the setup process, until he finished installing win2000 pro and went into the O/S (during setup it kept hanging, that's why he restarted).

Anyways, now that im into win2000, i really like it (its memory management and speed), but one thing bothers me. After about 20 minutes of win2000 being on, it freezes (the computer stops responding and the mouse stops). Some times after 10 minutes and sometime after about 30 minutes, it stops. Generally the life span, in which it stays on, before it freezes is between 0 and 30 minutes.

*Note*- remember that i had a "hanged" installation (but it did finally complete; at least i think it did).

Any ideas on what happenes and/or what is causing this behavior? Anything i could do to fix this problem?

bye.

Any chance of "over heating"? Are all the srvice packs installed? Is W2K your only OS - e.g. does it work fine in Win 98 BUT not W2K?

before you install win 2000, you better check all your hardwares to see if they are suppoorted by win2k. also, download all drivers for win2k before you do installation.

I think you hardware might have problem(s) that was caused installation problems.

This is either a hardware or driver issue. If the mouse freezes as well I would look for update chipset drivers, agp drivers. Sounds like video card is locking. If your OCed the set it back to default settings.
