1) Go to "Start" -> "Control Panel"
2) Click on "Network & Internet Connections"
3) Click on "Network Connections"
4) Right click on the icon for your Ethernet card connected to your DSL modem _> Choose "Properties"
5) Click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) -> Click "Properties"
6) In the "General" tab check off "Use the following IP address"
7) Enter an internal IP address 192.168.xxx.xxx (replace the x's with a number of your choice)
8) Enter a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
9) Click "OK"
10) Click "OK"
You have a USB modem so in theory you can't make this tweak, but this is what's happening Windows is looking for a DHCP IP address, hence it takes so long for that network cable message to come up.

My computer is nearing its end...... I have tried the above fix and I still have LAN "A network cable is unppluged" pop up after 10min or so.. Let me stick more info, when I log in to my ISP I can get IP Address and The Subnet Mask but no Default Gateway.. I also have something called WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface.. It gives me my IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway... Am I missing something...? I call AOL and they say "It's a know issue and they currently have no fix for it.", Sounds like BULLSH&* to me... I really don't know how they expect to keep customers if they say stuff like that. From the looks of it like I'm not the only person with this issue... For any AOL DSL user out there that have resolved this issue please drop me a line and give me some input since the people I pay money to every month don't have clue about what the hell I'm talking about......
