when i connect it shows "connected at 1,472,000 bps. Its a DSL connection, i believe pppoa (spelling?), can anybody tell me what to set Maxmtu and rwin at, i hear from some mtu should be 1492, and from others 1500. and all kinds of different stuff for rwin.

you should read this Evilajax is the ppoe wiz around here I think but MTU for ppoe is definately 1492 not 1500

As for Rwin you just have to play with it but the SG patches areagood place to start

Well, in my network settings it says, "Alcatel Speedtouch USB ADSL PPPoA" NOT PPPoE, what is the difference between the 2?

Also, i have MTU set to 1492 but whenever i connect to the TCP analyzer test it always says i have a MTU of 576 and a MSS of 536, whats up with that? dunoptimzer shows my mtu as set to 1492 in my registery but when i connect to this test program it says 576. The RWIN speed is showing up properly though

Better wait for someone who knows more than me

For PPPoA the max MTU is 576. You can set your computer higher, but the analyser will report 576 because that is all PPPoA will do.

Welp, i just got 1492 MTU to work on PPPoA, also when i run speed tests i get anywhere from 700 to 1200 kbp/s download, should i settle for this amount or is it worth trying to get higher?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TCP options string = 020405ac0103030201010402

MTU = 1492
MTU seems to be optimized for PPPoE... If you are not on a PPPoE connection, consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.

MSS = 1452
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1452, which is equal to MSS.
MSS is optimized for PPPoE. If you are not on a PPPoE connection, consider increasing your MTU value.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 255552
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 63888
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63888 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10222.08 kbps (1277.76 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4088.832 kbps (511.104 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 49 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Looks good I think Rwin scaling is supposed to be 1 or 3 but I'm not sure of it everything else looks alright

Think have to start reading the menu , and cablemodem stuff in here , there u will find the answer like all of us is finding it...

Change your rwin .. it would work for u!!!!!
