There is a new cable provider in my town (Hargray) that is offering a pretty good deal. I have Comcast now that has the regular DOCSIS cable modem. The new provider doesn't use cable modems. They install an outlet for a Cat 5 cable that attaches directly to my NIC card. I have never heard of this type of system....can someone shed some light on this setup? They are guaranteeing 384K up and down so it seems like a good deal and it's cheaper (considerably) than Comcast. Thanks in advance.

Anyone using Hargray?? Need some info please.
No modem and CAT 5 off cable? Nah! There has to be a conversion someplace between the tap and the wall plate. Besides that, unless there is open access to the cable in your 'hood, Comcast has exclusive rights to the cable. Or is Hargray running thier own mains?

I looked at their site. They don't say much, but it looks like it could be DSL.

They ran there own cable main. I have to switch to their TV cable too. The salesman says (he's not to technically saavy) that its converted at the head end. Maybe I should try their tech support for more info.
