Here's what I've got...

Three machines:
#1) AMD Tbird900/ 384 meg / 10/100 SMC nic/winME
#2) Intel PIII800/384 meg/10/100 SMC nic/WinXP
#3) Intel PII300 laptop/128 meg/10/100 Linksys USB/WinXP
Linksys BEFSR41 router

I'm currently transferring files between computers #1 and #2 at a rate of around 12 Mbit/sec.

On a 100 base network, what is the realistic upper end that I should see regarding speeds with transfers betweem these two computers? I'm not too concerned with the laptop and the usb connection because it's limited to 12 Mbit/sec max through the USB connection...

The maximum theoretical throughput for a single port on a 100 mbps switched network would be 12.5 megabytes/second. More than likely you won't see speeds that high. I usually get sustained averages of about 5-6 megabytes/second with large files and about 1 megabyte/second with small files.

I was pulling roughly about 1.5 Mbyte throughput ...all the files that I was transfering were mp3, so they were relatively small, none being any bigger than maybe 20 meg max...I'll have to get a larger file and try transfering that to see what I get...

What were your nic settings, and type of nic you were using?
