I just got the linksys etherfast cable/dsl router and set it up for 2 comps. The comp that we got this router for the first place is slow extremely slow about as fast as a 56k modem??? Why is that? Did i do something wrong? The other comp is still super fast

sometimes your ping and performance online can suffer if you have viruses on one of your pc's. I had one pc on my lan faster than the other at one point and i found 4 viruses on my machine. It wasn't to that extent but one pc was getting speed tests of like 1200 kb/sec and the other would get like 700.

Have you run all the windowsupdates from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com? Many of them include network code improvements, like TCP updates, and that vtcp386 file update.

Is your NIC properly installed, latest drivers, and not sharing an IRQ with anything? If it's a NIC that lets you adjust properties such as 10/100/auto and duplex settings...try playing around with those.

Network properties leaned out (no extra clients or un-needed protocols like IPX loading and clogging up things?)

If both computers can get to the internet via the Linksys....then the Linky is setup OK. Firmware since 1.37 have brought more speed....as long as your at least at that version, you should be fine. Latest firmware is 1.41 I believe.
