I have two computers. The one im on right now has cable and I want to network the other one to it. I dont want to share the modem I just want a network. My problem is when I set the ip "192.168.0.1" to the lan for tcp/ip, my cable wont work. How do I fix this? :(

Install the protocal "Netbeui" for your NIC
In the Properties for this, click on the Advanced tab, and click on "Use this for the default Protocal"
This should solve your problem
NetBEUI is the answer, and in case you aren't entirely familiar with it, here's a little more info. It communicates using the computer name under the Identification tab of Network properties rather than the IP address. It's important that you have File & Printer sharing enabled, but under Bindings, make sure it is only bound to NetBUEI and NOT TCP/IP. Otherwise anyone on the outside will be able to access you files, delete them, plant evil virusy programs on board and worst of all, print endless copies on your printer & use up all your paper. THE FIENDS!!!
Sorry, that was the voices.
Anyway, you likely have a name for your cable machine; you'll need to name the other one and open Network Neighborhood after reboot and see if they are both there. If not, we're open 24 hours.

you shouldn't set your ip in tcp/ip to 192.168.0.1 because it is very possible that this ip is the default gateway for your cable connection. i would make sure that you are using an ip which has not already been taken and also i would remind you that you will need to install netbeui on your other pc for them to communicate and keep in mind the more protocols you install the slower the network.
heres a list of IPs that wont ever conflict with registered IPs
class A 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
class B 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
class C 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
use default subnet and make sure ips not too far apart, my guess is you got class c gateway
type ipconfig /all at command prompt to find out all ya details
have you got 2 nics i sure you need 2 for your lan and a seperate ip for ya cable unless ofcourse ya got a router,could be wrong thought i still studying :)
Good point about the IP, Syclone. However, let's keep in mind that NetBEUI doesn't use IP addressing, so Mordarion can delete TCP/IP from his non-internet box.

Everything thing works great now! Thanks guys! NetBEUI was the answer. After I tinkered with that a while, I installed a program called Sygate which allowed me to share my cable. My sister was eating up my gaming bandwidth so I took it off soon after. Anyways, Thanks again guys.
