no sound on any video

I have checked all my video players quicktime , tdk and mp can't play mpg,avi..... but they all can play mp3 no problem . I think I have an interesting software issue any Ideas?

found out what it was I guess I loaded some bull**** softwere and it must have replaced some system files so I used my 98 disk to replace them thank for your input people ,
