I would like to host my own web page. I will be purchasing a new router and would like to know which router would allow people from the outside to access the webpage. Currently I have a Linksys 4port Router which I cannot seem to configure correctly for outside use. I am also going to add more computers next year so the Linksys has to be replaced anyway.
Thanks

you have to use something called port forwarding. Whatever port you are running your server on, which should be 80 or 81 if your ISP blocks port 80, you have to forward that port to that computer, or else no-one from the outside will be able to access it.
Go into the router set-up and I think its on the advanced tab. Just look around in there and you will see it.
Most routers or I think all routers allow you to do this.

They all will let you run servers, as just about all routers support a feature called "Port Forwarding" in which you forward the ports that your application uses to the private LAN IP of the server.
But the Linksys isn't the most robust router, many things run "flakey" behind them. The NetGear routers do a good job, I have our LAN at the office connected to one via a 6 meg DSL line, and have webpages and Outlook Web Admin running through it fine.
Nexland also makes some awesome routers, I'm getting one next week.

Thanks for the info. I will try again with the Linksys that I already have until I get the new computer. I have another question .
Currently I have the router set to obtain an IP address automatically, DCHP Server enabled, and each nic that connects to the router are also set to automatically obtain an IP. What changes do I need to make to w each computer and router.
Thanks again

You can leave all the settings the way they are. The only thing you have to worry about is port forwarding.
