slow internet speed

Maybe I was not clear. My desktop is connected via my @home USB adapter from my computer to the router and my laptop is connected to the router via a netgear ethernet card. The cable modem is connected then to the router, giving both computers access to the internet.

OK so to eliminate the slow internet problem I would suggest trying ethernet from the desktop to the router instead of USB. There seems to be a ton of problems with USB and broadband connections.
