MS DirectX 8.1

What do you guys think of DirectX 8.1??

I thought I read somewhere that it has some spyware from MS that searches your proggies for illegal copies or something.

Is it good to download and install or should I stick with 8.0?? Thanks!!:cool:

To be honest, I don't see a bit of difference between it and 8.0a.
As far as MS Spyware-I have not gotten any alerts from the firewall for outgoing traffic. I think the spyware thing is a bum wrap towards MS. If I'm wrong, by all means, rub my nose in it. :)

While were on the DX 8.1 issue... I keep getting this error. Direct3D test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x887602eb (error code)

This is when I test Dir 3d. acceleration. Also when I try to run 3dmark2k1 I get some out of memory prompt, I'm not out of memory!

I also keep getting this when I try to use D3D programs.

Error: SetFullscreen - creating the device failed : E_OUTOFMEMORY

I can't be out of memory, I'm not running much and In task mgr. it says I have quite a bit of free memory. Btw, I'm using gf 2 mx 400 pci.

Epyon, I don't know the answer to your problem, but perhaps start another thread so the question at least gets noticed. Sorry, wish I could help. :(
