i'm thinking about getting DSL, if i buy my own equipment,it seems i could be better off.
but i don't know what i need as for as equipment goes.

but i don't know what i need as for as equipment goes. You're better off using your free modem, ethernet wire, and filters your DSL package comes with. Get a good Network Interface Card, and if it's PPPoE get RASPPPoE. Routers suck IMO.

I concur. DSL can be problematic (depends on the isp) adn you want to be able to have them support as much of your hardware as possible.

o.k,so what im seeing so far is,go with south western bells
equipment, and be done with it.

I do. I'll never use the "free" junk that arrives in your home install kit. Got my own modem (have 2, one for backup), my own NIC of course (desk full of 3COM's from work), and my own router (much preferred over performance cutting software sharing)
