Quick Summary: I have two partitions. With the help of you guys, I have WIN ME installed on C and WIN XP on D. Now that I experimented with XP for a few days and saw that everything works fine, my drivers, programs etc.. I decided to remove WIN ME completely from C and install XP only. At this point I have 2 questions in my mind.

1- If I format C and install XP after that, at some point I will have XP on both C and D. (Of course I will remove the one on D later, but for some time this will be the case. ) Does that cause a problem? If yes, should I do that on this order?

1-Remove XP on D first
2-Format C
3-Install XP on C?
Which is the right order?

2- When removing XP on D, which is the best way to do it? I don't want to format D because I have a lot of data files in it. So is it OK if I go to DOS and type like 'Deltree D:\windows" ?

Any other tips and recommendations are welcome.

Thanks.

I would just put the winxp disk in and do a format from there on c and install. You might have to make up another master boot file, but that shouldb e a problem. I wouldnt delete the D partition or anything on it either. If you are running programs there, .dll's might be in the windows folder. Just leave winxp intact on that drive as well.

id like to know if .....reinstallin on C:.....will xp find the other xp installation and rebuild the boot.ini to show it or will it ignore it?
hmmmmm
ive been building my partitions the same way for such a long time.
but anyhow......you can format and intall on C: and you will still be able to see the data on the other hard drive....(granted you dont blow out that partition in fdisk or setup)

You can have XP on the D: partition and then install it again on the C: partition. The boot menu will actually have Windows XP listed twice; the top one will be the more "current" one. I noticed that when I decided I no longer needed ME and installed XP on the C: partition.
