YeOldeStonecat, I hope you read this thread-
I've been thinking about your problem with connecting to remote sites, and how you've been getting the blinking cursor, and freeze ups. I knew there was something else, and it just came to me last night.
I can't even remember where I found this, but it was at least a couple years ago. When setting up a host pcA connection item for modem connections, the default "no. of rings to answer" on the older versions (8.0, 9.0) defaulted to " 1 " . You could change that, but when you set a new item up, that's what it set it for.
The no. of rings needs to be changed to 3 !!!
If you look on ver. 10, it does this by default now. This is changed on the main program window, under Tools>options> host properties.
I have no idea what made me remember this, but that will likely take care of your issue.
