i have been monitoring my network xfer speeds and my average is around 4-6 megabytes per second...is that good?

stats:
athlon 1900+ xp
1 gig mushkin ddr
160gb RAID <edit> <-----striping RAID </edit>
intel pro 100s

intel p3 750
256 megs 100mhz
40 gig raid mirror
kingston nic

full duplex 100tx network 10/100 switches all around, windows xp pro using tcp/ip.

100mb/sec (b=bit) is 12.5MB/sec. (B=Byte).

100TX actually is a 12.5MB/sec.

An average network will yield 8-10MB/sec. the rest goes on the system overhead.

4-6MB/sec. is a little on the slow side.

what can i do to speed it up? i'm constantly transferring large files in between these machines
