Does it actually do what it says it does. I dont want to run the test if it is possible that it will corrupt files.

Well done.
I have been through all five also and I think the site is great for the visual impact.
The scans would not be any different than most others though IMHO.

if you have run online scanners before and you have your firewall up then you shouldn't have any trouble getting through.
The sites that suggest you scan and then repeat after dropping your firwall are the ones that concern me. After all, you are testing the system's existing defences.

I sent some people there some time back and a few of them would not touch it after scrolling down.

Glad to see you all enjoyed it.

If anyone is interested and has a logging program for their firewall, have a look at the hits that Virtual Suicide threw at you.

Don't do an abuse@ for them though. After all, you did request it.
