Since I changed to Win XP Pro from ME it seems that there is much more lag than before ... I tried to search for a topic like this but couldn't find one. So, I'd really appreciate it if you gave me some tips how to make online games smoother and better...
I mostly play a game called runescape and have cable.
Btw, everyone thinking about changing their OS to XP should do it, it's really great, hasn't crashed one single time in the 1 month that I've used it.

geforce 2 mx,700 celeron, msi 6163pro mobo, 3com etherlink 10/100,386 mb sdram, I've installed the xp detonators, that's the hardware. I have installed the sg win_2k patches.
But I don't have any probs with graphics or the like, just online games running as slow as with a 56kb dialup, actually my brother has a dial-up and I can't see any difference between my cable an his dial-up. My download speeds are fast, about 350-400kb, so there ain't nothing wrong over there, just lag. well thanks for replying, it's nice when someone trys to help:)

ping speedguide.net: average 144
TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 49 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

ur ping is very high, i'd call ur ISP and tell them about this and they can check ur line for its signal, or maybe they are having a problem

that's a high ping? damn, the game I play has it's servers in the UK so it's over 200 in ping, I pinged some sites in the uk and they were all over 200...What can my ISP do if I call them, I mean, what can be done so that it gets better?

I just disabled QoS packet scheduler,it increased my download speed by 20%, I am not sure what it does, all I know is that it reserves 20% of the bandwidht to the OS which is probably a thing most people don't want. But when, if, somebody does this You have to log-in with the account ADMINISTRATOR, do not login wit a account with administrative rights, this will screw up the system. I did this a couple of weeks ago and had to do a clean install...
It can be disabled in Network Connections | ur network card, there is QoS packet scheduler, disable it (at your own risk). If something gets screwed up just use system Restore...

they can raise or lower the signal to ur modem if ur low or high or u can find out if theres a problem, disabling QoS is good.
Try installing the drivers for your NIC that are from the company that makes it.. For instance when using windows drivers for my NIC i gain anywhere from 10 to 20ms but using the manufacturers drivers I lose those 10-20ms
Also if that does nothing try getting the default Win 2k patch from here and see if it helps you any.

Well I installed the drivers and the ping to speedguide grew by almost 100ms but the game seems to be running smoother...

Hi.
Try changing the network settings for that game.
Also, Make sure that your video is running good on that game because i think that if the video isn't running smoothly in the game, it can severely affect your lag, regardless of your connection!
bye.

Hello, I was having similar problems when I switched over from 98se to xp pro. Unreal tournament was running slow. Mainly online. It took a week or 2 but i finally saw that when I installed the game xp configured some of the ini. files (settings) incorrect. I changed the files back accordinly. I don't know why xp does this but as soon as i changed the ini. files in unreal back everything ran smooth as silk. Hope this helps

Da_Devastator:
Well, it's a online game which can be downloaded, and u start it and choose server and start playing, there are no settings. Actually, you could take a look at it, it's 117 kb so that shouldn't be a problem. It's really great when you know some things about it.Runescape (http://www.runescape.com)
DavejonesUSA:
Well what ini's did it change?

Next question:
Is there some way to make packet loss smaller or none?
bye
