Hey if you have rr or cable or dsl do this test this is for timewarner customers to test their connections speeds for tech support.

http://www.accesstimewarner.com/speedtest/speed.asp

Tell me what you get and what time you got it and your location(i.e. state) please.

thanks

Just kindof curious

I get between 1800-1906 during peak hours

Personally, I wouldn't give that speed test any credit what so ever. It is not acurate at all. My average from my local RR FTP is 1840kbps. ;)

That is what I meant about the RR test page not being accurate!
He either isn't capped, but I believe we all are on RR now, or the test is as bogus as some of the fixes the help desk trys so hard to get you to do! ;)

You could change your RWIN to something higher, say 256960 and enable scaling. That should bring your speeds up a little more. On a Binary speed test from my local RR Server, which isn't really local, it's in Virginia, I pull a stead 231KB/s out of them.

In your Cablenut adjuster, change the value of Tcp1323Opts to ="1" and in your RWIN change that to 256960, save your changes and reboot.
Try a speedtest from http://atl.speakeasy.net/ and see if your not seeing anything better. You can PM me if your having any troubles. I float around and I'm not always here. ;)

RR in Miss

In cablenut adjuster i have the following:

BSDUrgent 1
DefaultRcvWindow 373360
DefaultTTL 64
EnableDNS 0
Lanabase 0
LocalCopyMade 1
MaxConnections 1000
MaxDataRetries 7
PMTUBlackholeDetect 0
PMTUDiscovery 1
SackOpts 1
Size/Small/Medium/Large 3
Tcp1323Opts 1
TcpTimedWaitDelay 60
MaxDupAcks 3
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server 32
MaxConnectionsPerServer 16

You can probaly try these sets but start with DefaultRcvWindow at 522680, 524176 and then 531440. I have 128 rimm so if you have less try 128480 and then 256960. These numbers should go in the cablenut adjuster for each labled. Make sure HD is defragmented, and before each test delete cookies, files(on and off) and clear history. I also think tweak me gold is good for all other little tweaks for your comp. And I also use power defrag instead of windows defrag. But if you have Xp then try Tweak Xp its the same but made for Win Xp only. Good Luck! But I kind of agree with blebs99. I mean if you worked for Ford would you give better stats for Chevy. You would probaly show how Mustang can beat the Z, even though we would know you were insane! Chevy The Heart Beat Of Amerricca!lol:)

there is a new RoadRunner speed test at:

It is alot more accurate than the graphic download of the bird that should have been cooked for Thanksgiving. :rotfl:

Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows 95)

TCP options string = 020405b4

MTU = 1500

shaolin_monk, Download and install the SG Patch for your OS here:
http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_patches.shtml

Follow the install instructions for the file. After rebooting take the SG TCP/IP Analyzer test again and post the results here.

x-factor, you need the Windows 2K patch.

BTW, nice system. I'll see if I can come up with some RWIN values for thet 2 Ghz chip

Test running..........
** Speed 1770(down)/361(up) kbps **
(At least 35 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

Or......
At the site you tested at I get:

Your line speed:
1058.4 kbps
129.7 K bytes/sec

The reason for that is you may have a busy node. It's peak usage time and everyone is using bandwidth.

You may be capped at 2000 down 384 up. You could try changing your RWIN to see if it helps your download speeds but I would wait and see. If you can try checking your speeds at off peak hours 3-5 am EST.

Other factors could include programs that are running like firewalls and anti virus programs. Also defragging your HD regulaurly and cleaning out your internet cache can help.

Getting better. Do you know how to edit your windows registry?

Sure. Been doing that since the 95 days :)
I always change out titlebars for IE/OE in there. I go in after I uninstall anything to clean out all references to that program that the uninstaller NEVER removes completly. Also go in and reset install timestamps for some programs that quit after running only 30 days and atart asking for any of that money that I'm addicted to. <evil laugh>

earthmofo

I do the same thing. It's amazing how much junk is left in the registry after you uninstall a program. I also clean out my MRU's. You'd be surprised at how many stream MRU entries are in there. I had over 200 before I cleaned it out last time:rolleyes:

If you don't feel like wasteing time trying to find where the following registry keys go Download and install the Cablenut Adjuster available here: http://broadbandnuts.com/software.shtml. It allows you to edit all the Broadband registry values and plus you can save your custom settings. It comes in really handy when tweaking your connection.

Please note: if you install Cablenut it will REMOVE all prior tweaks. You will have to reinstall the SG patch but it's worth the inconvience.

Try these RWIN values. 601520, 715400 or 840960. I came up with the last value based on your CPU and what I think your cap is. It is basically a small value but I changed the window scaleing.
With your fast CPU it may work well.

The site is more accurate for Cox@home customers. It's a very fast connection. I did a tracert on it and it came up with all cox@home IP's with a ping time of < 40 ms.
