View Full Version : Pacbell Capped Me
Hey, I have DSL thru Pacbell/SBC, when I first got service They started me at 1.5 and it worked for awhile, then suddenly the modem would not connect, to make a long story short, the capped me at 768 and said that there was probably some line issues at my house, which I tend to agree they were lookin kinda old. Well since then I removed the Entranet300 software and am using a Linksys Router to handle my pppoe, also ran a direct line of cat5 wire out to box from modem, the only thing is now its seems like it is impossible to get pacbell to run another profile and uncap me so I can see if 1.5 will be stable now. Any suggestions?

They cant "uncap" you, they just lowered your line speed because of line issues.

What Pacific Bell has done to your line could be interpreted as a cap, but it was not intended as such. If they had to lower the line rate at which your modem will train with stability, that means that there's either a distance or line degradation factor that impairs your modem from staying synchronized at 1.544mbps. Changing your wiring from your NID to your home won't help, what would help is if they changed your loop from your house, to the central office. The latter is likely not possible. If your line is no good, likely the other remaining loops in your trunk are just as bad.
Hey Noise, can you do me a favor and test your upload speed here: http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/bandwidthup.asp I'm on pacbell also. Just wondering what your upload is.
Hey Eddie, at the link you posted it said 120 up, typically at DSL Reports using thier speed test I average 652 down/108 up
