Ok, got one for ya.

Cable modem
10/100 3com HUB
HP running 2 nic's
Laptop

On the HP I have 2 nics one going to the cable modem one going to the hub. Laptop is connected to the hub as well. I can see the laptop via the HP and vice versa. I have both on DHCP. Can share drives and everything.

Now, I want to enable internet connection sharing. When you do this it puts in an IP on the card connected to the cable modem. Which needs to be on DHCP, so I change this back. Now cannot get connected via laptop through the HP. What sux, is that this worked, yesterday afternoon. I bail out for a bit, come back and it doesnt work. Tried static ip's on both the laptop and the hub connection on HP, nothing. Tried to set to DHCP still wont get out. Keep getting DNS errors. Again, this setup, all connections on DHCP and internet sharing on the cable modem connection worked. Now its hosed. Keep getting DNS errors.

Any idears??

Can you ping out to the DNS servers from either box? Can you ping out to an IP address rahter than URL (try 216.115.108.245 thats yahoo.com). First off I would make sure you have connectivity there. If not, verify that you are getting an IP from your ISP's DHCP server.

Negative, when I try to ping anything, all 100% loss no data sent. Might try to get it going again later. Mebbe they jusst needed to sit for a bit. Only thing that changed is I installed a new CDRW drive. Other then that Im clueless. :(

I have never used ICS myself, but all accounts are that it is a little flakey. Might try removing/uninstalling ICS and then adding it back again. I don't see how an optical drive could affect your network settings.

You need to run ICS on the HP computer. What OS is the host(HP computer)???

If its 98 then set the HP to have an IP of 192.168.0.1 in the TCP/IP settings for the lan card and the laptop to have an IP of 192.168.0.2 Then when an application wants to access the internet then tell it to use a proxy and set the adress to 192.168.0.1

If its XP then turn on ICS in the network props of the lan card.
Then on the laptop, in the TCP/IP config, set it to obtain IP automatically. Then apps with run normally without you configuring them for a proxy.

Hi, both are on win2k, I have taken it off and turned it back on. On the card going to the cable modem, I cant go static or it will kill the cable connection which is DHCP. I have tried static with the correct dns settings and what not on the nic going to the hub on the HP and the laptop. Still no go. Do not know how to configure it to work without using ICS. So, will try again when I get home in about 45 min. Will be here with Q's hehe.
