When I upload anything to a server my upload goes to 10k then drops to 0, then to 8k and then to 0 then to 10 and then to 0 and so on and so on.

This creates chopiness and a lot of lag on my games

I am using a netgear router RT314, but I tried it without the router and the problem persists...

I have used different machines, different lan cards and the same trash...

I have talked to the people of ATM and they say everything is perfect...

My downloads are perfect... when downloading... you know that it usually uploads a confirmation or a request... the upload in that case is perfect and consistent...

Is there any reason or any configuration that I need to change for the upload of files and games to be normal and consistent and not go to 0k upload on a regular basis? I want it to upload consistently at 10k/s +

THanks

TCP options string = 020405ac0103030301010402

MTU = 1492
MTU seems to be optimized for PPPoE... If you are not on a PPPoE connection, consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.

MSS = 1452
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1452, which is equal to MSS.
MSS is optimized for PPPoE. If you are not on a PPPoE connection, consider increasing your MTU value.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 511104
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 63888
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63888 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 20444.16 kbps (2555.52 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 8177.664 kbps (1022.208 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 113 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Maybe you can try and bring down your rwin a bit

I know that ping times has nothing to do with rwins but it may help your connection stay consistent.

Packetloss problem, sounds like.

Check line condition, and if need be, call your Service providor. Your RWIN, etc have no affect here.

But I can download perfectly at the cap always!!!!

Line condition???

Dont get it...

Downstream is ok, but upstream could have some problems, like packetloss.

I changed my MTU to 63 and the performance increase in upload was great... But download went down 20k/s, but uploads went up consistently...

Any thoughts on this?

MTU to 63?

Crazy HA? but true... A great improvement... YOu were righ halflifer!!! too much packet loss... I started to ping www.yahoo.com and I had to drop down to 65-75 to have a 0% packet loss... any more than that was a problem... that made a huge improvement... The ping was the same but there was no more choppiness Uploads where at 16k/s and downloads at 30-35k/s.

My solution is a reboot changing the MTU whenever i am going to play... any other ideas???

Understood? YES YES I SET THE MTU TO 63

WHY? MTU has no effect on pings or packet losses for that matter.

Here they say it does...

But I still get a lot of packet loss anyways now again

Yes, it does. For UDP games, like halflife, it doesnt. But for TCP games like Quake, it does. And regular pings to websites.
