To any provider;
I’m having a problem with having a cable modem on my plant.
I’m using 3com (tailfin) & Motorola 4100 (surfboard) modems. I’ve checked forward & reverse. My plant is very clean, the modem will hit the server, get the config file & dump everything & try to sync up again. Then I can take this modem back to my headend, it will come right up. I have even tried a modem from all the taps before & after my problem area & they come right up. I’m sure this is something easy & I’m trying to hard to find it.
If you need more information I will pass along everything I’ve done.
Thanks in advance.

Hve you tried the modem out at the pole? You'd need somekind of a UPS, but you could probably scrounge one.

I'm thinking along the lnes of a split that you don't know about, a noisy TV or VCR, etc.

That would rull out the house electric supply as well as the house cabling.

Kip,
don't you think that would effect my return for telephone?

No, the return Freq. is different. You're TV and Phone can work and have no return. Since you have a GI modem, what do you have for tranmits and S/N? With all 4 lights lit on your surfboard modem (Pwr,receive,send,and online) type in 192.168.100.1 in your browser. You will see the configuration page for the modem. Click on the signal tab. When you scroll down, you will see your S/n levels on the downstream and your transmits on the upstream results. You also may have a problem with your upstream S/N which is caused by commen path or impuse noise.

Let me know.. Freddy

Freddy,
My return for Telephone is 40, The return for Cable modems is 20.
today I put (started @ 3db up to 10 db) attenuators before the modem, thinking that might help my C/N ratio, still nothing.
I went to all the amps & taps before this modem great levels & all the connections were great.
After about a month looking for this problem, I'm thinking about running some copper.
I'm starting to get a little pissed because I can't find the issue.
