winxp upgrade help needed

im trying to upgrade from win me to win xp pro, but when i run the compatibilty wizard i keep getting my printer as hardware that wont work, but microsoft said it will

its a hp deskjet 672c printer, but i cant seem to remove it totally from my computer so that i can get an upgrade going

it also says i have deskjet 820c printer which i dont

i dont wanna do a complete format cause i dont wanna have to back everything up

hp says when u install winxp that its basic drivers will work with this printer

I never used the compatibility wizard....I just went to upgrade....everything was detected, and works fine.

see if you can do that, dont bother with compatiblity wizard for now.

or just uninstall your printer in device manager, and leave it unplugged during your installation of XP, so it doesn't conflict with anything.

ive tried uninstalling it and not havign the printer on, but win xp runs the compatibility thing before upgrade continues and stops installation

how do u get around doing the compatibility wizard during setup?

everytime i try to get around it and just upgrade it wont let me

the only problem i have is 1 printer i have and 1 printer i dont even know were it came from thats stopping me from upgrading

have you tried booting up into safemode and removing all printers from that? sometimes removing hardware in normal windows fails to work..
